I will never forget my experiences as a caregiver. It was in October of 2006 that my grandfather had fallen and broken his hip. I was afraid because I know that when elderly people become injured it is harder for them to heal. I started to think about who was going to watch after my grandfather and provide the right care for him. I decided that I would take on the job.
I watched my grandfather and kept him company until his health was getting too bad and he needed more experienced help. That's when hospice came along, and that's when I knew that my grandfather was in his final days.
But just knowing that I made my grandfather's final months on this earth happy and fulfilling is what I loved the most. The impact that you can have on a person by just showing that you care is a knowledge I cherish.
