Licensed senior home care agencies provide "private-duty" senior care services given by certified caregivers. Caregivers may be trained as Companion Caregivers, Home Health Aides or Certified Nursing Aides. Senior Care Co.'s Train Staff for companion care, meeting each state's requirement for caregiver certification. Caregivers may purchase annual certification training for $59 or $79.

Online caregiver training allows caregivers to get certified at anytime, from anywhere. It also makes it easy for caregivers to get annual certification training each year. Caregiver certification training delivers a standard of quality for caregiving, for both the caregivers delivering the care and the senior care companies managing the care. There are many state regulations that protect caregivers as workers, and protect the privacy of care recipients, who may be seniors who are experiencing changing health conditions and memory loss.

Courses are available in Spanish, English, Tagalog, and Hindi. Caregivers may log-in and out, as needed, and take the training at their own pace. States require renewal training each year in order to maintain certification as a caregiver. Each state in the U.S.A. creates their own mandates for caregiver certification by passing legislation to require senior care companies, including senior home care agencies, Medicaid community home care providers and assisted living companies to train caregivers for certification for caregiving skills. Initial training prior to working with a client and annual training to maintain caregiver certification status are required. Most employee certification training programs will require taking a training course every year to verify the person has maintained their capabilities.
As states pass legislation for caregiver certification training requirements, they may also revisit the requirements after they are being implemented to change them or update them. For example, Illinois mandated an 8-hour annual caregiver training certification program and then followed this requirement up with additional training needed for any caregiver to be certified for Alzheimer's and dementia caregiving.
California began the process for caregiver certification training in Assembly Bill 1217 which then was passed by the legislature and signed by their governor to require 10 hours of initial training and 5 hours of annual caregiver renewal training to be a certified caregiver in California.
Home Caregiver Certification Requirements Commonly Included:
The caregiver certification test will review the concepts taught in the caregiver course. Caregiver course requirements will vary slightly in each state. Some states will mandate specific topics, or caregiver course requirements, along with an estimate of the number of hours the training should take for the caregiver to review the caregiver certification course online. Other states only require a caregiver to take training of any length or type, to be a state certified caregiver.
State certified caregivers will receive a certificate upon completion of their course and caregiver training exam on Caregiver Training University. The caregiver certification test is not always required in state caregiver certification laws, but Caregiver Training University requires all caregivers to pass the caregiver certification test provided at the end of the training course to become a state certified caregiver.
The levels of caregiver training will begin to build with each annual caregiver certification course. Caregivers maintain their certificates to show their year's of caregiver certification training courses. In-home caregiver training has only been required in the last 20 years, with the majority of state caregiver certification mandates only being required for licensed home care in the last 10 years.
State Caregiver Certification will be consistent for each industry and is segmented according to these different classifications:
More than 25 states in the U.S.A. provide specific caregiver certification hours and topics. Some states, such as Florida, provide specific state certification guidelines for Alzheimer's and Dementia care and include training for HIV/AIDS and medication monitoring. New Jersey's state caregiver certification requirements are the most detailed, requiring Certified Home Health Aides (or C.H.H.A.'s) to have more than 60 hours of training and 12-hours of annual caregiver certification training.
