Caregiving Story

Roland Reynolds

My dad had Alzheimer's disease. From onset to the end was a period of 17 years. After 10 years my mom was diagnosed with bone cancer, and I then had 2 people to take care of. My mom and I started an adult day care to help other people with their loved ones. My mom passed away in 1997 and my dad lived until 2003. I took care of my mom and dad because they always took care of me. I directed the day care and also cooked meals. I wrote a grant proposal and got funded to take my activity program to seniors in their homes for 1 year. The time I spent with my clients was very rewarding and it was one of the most rewarding jobs I ever had.
