Overall Medicare Star Rating 20% weight

This is the rating for the overall results of the government inspection reports, conducted once every 12 to 15 months.

Percentage of Short-stay Residents with Pressure Sores 20% weight

Residents with pressure sores need to be repositioned regularly every 2 hours to allow healing and prevent new sores. A higher percentage indicates either residents arriving with sores or insufficient C.N.A. staffing. Pressure sores can lead to infections and mobility issues.

Certified Nursing Aide (C.N.A.) Hours per Resident per Day 40% weight

Caregiverlist weights this ranking highest. A C.N.A.'s largest frustration at a nursing home is the inability to adequately care for all assigned residents. Since assistance with personal care, exercise, and meals directly impacts recovery and healthy aging, the C.N.A.-to-resident ratio is the highest indicator of care quality.

Percent of Long-term Residents Needing More Help with Daily Activities 20% weight

When residents need more assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and not enough nursing aides are staffed, residents miss showers, dressing, physical therapy, and activities. More residents needing ADL help requires proportionally more C.N.A. staffing.
