Caregiver Certification Training: 10-hour Online Training Course for Senior Caregivers

Molly Schlanker, 10/9/2011

Senior caregiving requires many skills in order to deliver quality care.  By understanding how to motivate a senior to cooperate to take a shower or their medications for instance, you can easily succeed.  Caregivers who do not have proper training will quickly become frustrated.  There are ways to interact with seniors which will result in positive responses and techniques for delivering safe care which can be learned through caregiver training programs.

A 10-hour online training course, developed to meet the training requirements for the state of Illinois, as required by their state Department of Health, are very standard for what is needed to be a quality senior caregiver.  The training requirements were written and supported by senior caregiving professionals in Illinois before being passed into law.  aQuire Training has adapted these training requirments into a 10-hour online course delivering certification to senior caergivers.

A caregiver may take the course at their own pace, and once the caregiver feels comfortable they have learned and retained the information, they may take the test.  Upon passing at 80%, the certificate of completion is granted.

The Caregiver Certification Training modules include:

  • Duties of a Caregiver
  • Communicating with Others
  • Observation, Reporting and Recording
  • Providing Personal Care
  • Promoting and Maintaining Good Mobility
  • Elimination and Toileting
  • Infection Control
  • Environmental Hazards and Safety
  • Basic First Aid
  • Understanding Elder Abuse

Anyone considering becoming a professional caregiver may take the online training course.  This will allow your first time assisting a senior client with a bathroom visit to go smoothly and provide confidence for a career in caregiving.
