Senior Caregiver Certification Training

9/13/2011

Caring for a senior involves many skills, including understanding age-related illnesses.  Aging is a natural process and as we grow older, our cells stop regenerating and based on our lifestyle, diet and genetics, we will all experience different levels of progression of the aging process.

Managing the physical and emotional challenges of aging is important to be a high quality senior caregiver.

In addition, individuals without proper training place themselves and the senior potentially in a dangerous situation.  Not understanding mobility and communication challenges and safe transfering and personal care skills, not to mention how to interact with someone with memory loss can lead to accidents and more.  Not taking medications as prescribed can be fatal and not maintaining a healthy schedule of meals and exercise and emotional connections can lead to both physical and mental deterioration.  Many families can speak to the positive difference it makes when a quality senior caregiver begins working with a senior who was experience a decline in their capabilities because they did not have the proper care.

Caregivers can obtain a 10-hour online Caregiver Certification by taking a course which was developed by the leader in senior care training to meet the guidelines required by state licensing boards for non-medical senior caregiving.  Remember, Certified Nursing Aide training requires from 6 to 8 weeks, usually, and allows for caregivers to provide hands-on care.  You may find a listing of Certified Nursing Aide schools in your area.
