Becoming a Senior Caregiver: What led Rachelle to a career in caregiving?

What led you to begin a career in caregiving? My father was ill with COPD and I became a caregiver for him and found my true calling

How many years have you been a caregiver? Since I was 15, Professionally? I've only been a CNA a month.

What is one of your most memorable caregiving experiences? I have so many experiences, good and bad. My favorite moments are always those where we are laughing.

What has caregiving taught you? This is what I've learned so far-you have to ask yourself-Have you laughed with your client today? That is the key factor to a close relationship. Laughter cures all.

How do you manage the stress that comes with caregiving? -I drink hot chamomile and wind down every night. It helps to recharge my batteries. I spend time with my kids and make time for myself. I'm not sure that the answer or solution is the same for everyone-but I try to enjoy the simple pleasures in life and remind myself to take care of myself also.
