Becoming a Senior Caregiver: What led Jacqueline to a career in caregiving?

What led me to a career in caregiving is my passion in helping others who are ill. I think helping others is the most important thing we can do because life is hard and temporary, but the work we do to make others' lives more comfortable, happy, and meaningful will always make the whole world a better place.

My most memorable caregiving experience involved a woman who had just completed a double knee surgery, and was having a hard time getting back to bed after using the restroom. I carefully helped her back into bed, and held her hand and listened as she tearfully confided in me about her new struggles. She thanked me for my care and my time. It was incredibly rewarding.

I have been a caregiver for 6 years. Being a caregiver has taught me to embrace the differences in people and their cultures. I grew up in a very undiverse neighborhood, but caregiving has exposed me to many new experiences that I am extremely grateful for.

I manage stress by taking the time to do things I enjoy when I'm not working. I love to run, cook, and spend time with my husband. At work, I take deep breaths and remind myself that I wouldn't change my life for anything.
