Phyllis Diller Suffered Fall Shortly Before Death

Longtime actress and comedian Phyllis Diller passed away at the age of 95 this week.  Reports stated that her health began to worsen following a recent fall in which she injured both her hip and a wrist.  While it could be argued that a fall itself could be responsible for a decline in health, it is not entirely known whether falls are linked with earlier deaths because of the detrimental effect of the fall itself, or whether the fall is a sign of declining health in general which leads to earlier death on its own. 

Regardless of the true cause of health that seems to worsen after a fall, preventative measures may be taken to help prevent falls.  Exercises may be practiced to build and maintain physical strength and agility, while other fall prevention efforts may include ensuring a senior’s home is clean and free of tripping hazards.  It is further essential that the senior’s eyesight health and mental dexterity be monitored to prevent falls.  A senior’s various medications may additionally cause drowsiness or impaired movement which can cause falls.

However, Phyllis Diller remained lively until the end of her life despite any health difficulties, even making appearances on CNN last year on Anderson Cooper’s show, taking part in a panel of comedians.  Other endeavors of recent years included her taking part in various television shows and a movie.  She leaves behind a legacy achieved through humor, entertainment, and a youthful energy that persisted throughout her life until her passing.
