Immediate Full-Time Caregiver for Senior Male at Nights

Huntington Beach, CA

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prefer a high school graduate, GED, or one year work experience in a related field.
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must participate in the educational programs provided by Nurse Next Door
• Must maintain CPR certification
• Certification as a CNA or minimum of (1) years of documented experience as caregiver preferred
• Will not have any criminal conviction on background check
• Must be physically capable and able to lift and transfer clients to the level and amount determined by each individual client
• Must have effective communication skills and be able to follow instructions to complete work as scheduled
• Must have proof of a current driver's license and have a dependable, insured automobile
• Must have a positive attitude, which fosters a cooperative and positive atmosphere
• Negative TB skin test or chest x-ray
• Self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision
• Empathy for the needs of the client
• Ability to express spoken and/or written ideas in English
• Treats clients, staff and the public with courtesy, respect and presents appositive public image.
• Ensures confidentiality and security of the client’s medical information.


GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


This list represents some of the duties and responsibilities you may be asked to perform. There may be some duties that are not mentioned on this list that you will be asked to perform.

• Will display good emotional health and be able to physically tolerate standing, bending, stooping and lifting.
• Will be able to read, follow written instructions and document care given to client.
• Will demonstrate flexibility in acceptance of assignments and a cooperative attitude toward providing services.
• Will provide companionship to the client by reading, talking, listening and performing related psychosocial activities.
• Will take client shopping, on short trips or on walks as necessary.
• Will assist client in all activities of daily living/hygiene assistance, bathing, grooming, linen changes, etc.
• Will prepare nutritious meals within the patient’s diet, assist client with eating and follow up with clean up.
• Will assist clients with transfers, ambulation and exercises.
• Will perform light housekeeping chores that the client is unable to perform including vacuuming, make beds, laundry, dusting, mopping, cleaning the bathroom and kitchen.
• Will assist client in the bathroom or with use of a bedpan, if needed.
• Will meet the safety needs of the client and use equipment safely and properly.
• Will complete records accurately and carry out all assignments as requested.
• Will follow principles of infection control and Universal Precautions.
• Will provide transport to doctor appointments, outside activities and shopping.
• Will sign in and out using “Call Me!” or timesheets.
• Will report any significant changes to the Supervising Nurse IMMEDIATELY.
• Will communicate availability to work to the Client Services Coordinators as required.
• Will maintain confidentiality regarding the client’s condition and his/her family, with the exception of Nurse Next Door Staff and client’s physician.
• WILL FILL OUT THE CARE PLAN EVERY SHIFT! Notes must be completed on a shift-by-shift basis and must be signed after every shift.


LIMITATIONS:


• Will not dispense medication from bottles.
• Will not perform procedures or skills requiring the knowledge, training or skills of a licensed nurse.
• Will not do heavy lifting without proper equipment or assistance.
• Will not cut clients nails or hair.
• Will not assist shaving with a razor blade.
