Our female client has a terminal illness (Lou Gehrig's disease). We currently have a caregiver helping out during weekend night shifts, and client has requested our assistance as well for Wednesday and Thursday nights from 8:00pm-7:00am.
Skill set is more technically involved and is best suited for an R.N, or a CNA or LPN with many years of experience in a hospital or other institutional setting. Caregiver needs to be familiar with tasks such as filling a feeding bag, clearing the feeding tube (if it becomes clogged), using a b-pap machine, a lung assist machine, and needs to be comfortable with transfers. This is not a sleeping shift- client's voice is not very loud (and can't verbalize when she needs something), and she has lost her motor skills. Caregiver also would need to assist with helping client use a bedside commode, helping her with oral rinses, etc.
